Why is Facebook showing my old logo when I link to my publication?

If you have recently changed your publication logo or header background color and try to share a link to your publication website on Facebook, it’s possible that Facebook may still display your old settings.

This is because the first time you share a link to your publication, Facebook caches the content (including the images and colors) so that it can grab them quickly the next time you want to share a similar link. Don’t worry though, there is a a way to force Facebook to grab the latest settings from your publication!

Note: If the expanded preview is not working at all for your URL and you are using a custom domain, try writing the link using “http://” rather than “https://” at the beginning of the URL.

How do I get Facebook to refresh my content?

Visit Facebook’s Debugger site, enter the URL you want to share on Facebook and click the Debug button.

The Debugger will display the settings that Facebook currently has cached for your site. To refresh this data, click the ‘Fetch new scrape information’ button at the top of the page. You should now see the correct content for your publication on the Debugger page. The link to your publication is now ready for sharing with the world!
